This summer Kit Us Out was asked to support the 20th Commonwealth Games with the provision of kit to para athletes from developing nations. This years games were one of the best yet, with a truly amazing atmosphere in the host city of Glasgow, Scotland. We worked closely with the Commonwealth Games Associations from developing nations within the Commonwealth. In the run up to the games we managed to pull together of 2,000 items of kits that ranged from swimming goggles and swimming outfits to cycling gear and table tennis kits to wheelchairs and running spikes and almost everything else in between! We had a base in the Athletes Village and we were able to distribute kit from there.
During the games we got an amazing amount of support from the Clydesiders (Glasgow 2014 game volunteers), they helped us in a huge number of tasks from buying kit to transporting ridiculous heavy boxes across Glasgow, without them what we were able to achieve during the games simply wouldn’t have been possible. The media were also very supportive of what we were trying to achieve during the games and we managed to get great coverage within the UK and across the Commonwealth. This really helped get our story out and the support we received from the public was overwhelming.
We will give a full update of the teams and athletes we managed to help in due course, but we significantly built on the work we did during the London Paralympics. It is great that something which started out as buying two Paralympic Athletes a pair of running spikes has grown into something which is now able to help an increasingly large number of para athletes competing in a wide variety of disciplines from countries across the globe. We just hope we can continue this journey going forward, but we will need your support and generosity to do so. Please help us spread the word and do drop us a line if there is ever anything you feel you can help out with. We would love to hear from you.
Thank you from the whole Kit Us Out team
